We’re heading to the Sou’wester again for our THIRD ANNUAL Airstream Poetry Festival.
October 20-22, join publishers, authors, and plain old book lovers for potlucks in the pavilion, readings, workshops, walks by the sea, and maybe even some karaoke.
UPDATE: We are full up! Call to be added to a waiting list in case of cancellations: 719-232-1485
Programming is taking shape, and we’ll have flyers on hand to guide you through the weekend upon your arrival. Here’s the basic plan for now:
Arrive, get acquainted, make some food for the potluck in your trailer or cabin or room (most are equipped with kitchens, so feel free to bring ingredients for dish to share at our POTLUCK in the PAVILION, which will probably get started between 7pm and 8pm
After dinner, enjoy a banjo music singalong with poet Ed Skoog and music from special guests Bianca & Edgar and Timmy Straw
Wake up to coffee in the Lodge, or venture into Seaview for brunch or out to the coast for a hike. We’ll have workshops and readings in the afternoon starting at 2pm, in 50-minute blocks.
Workshop presenters currently include Jay Ponteri (nonfiction), Zosia Wiatr, this year’s Airstream Poetry Fellow (translation), and A.M. O’Malley (Experiments in Prose and Poetry). Tavern Books will host a sneak-preview reading from their most recent book, a beautiful new edition of Monochords by Yannis Ritsos, translated from the Greek by Paul Merchant. Betsy Fogelman Tighe will host a tribute reading honoring W.S. Merwin, open to participation.
Saturday dinner is on your own, but at 7pm Saturday evening, we’ll gather for an all-star reading in the Lodge featuring Airstream Poetry Fellow Zosia Waitr, along with Carl Adamshick, Jay Ponteri, Erin Nelson (Mother Foucault’s summer writer-in-residence), Airin Miller, Joni Whitworth, and Jennifer Firestone.
Later Saturday evening, we’re excited to welcome the Wandering Reel Traveling Film Festival for a screening and discussion in the Pavilion!
If you’d like to arrive before Friday or stay past Sunday, make an additional reservation with the Sou’wester directly, by phone: 360-642-2542 or online.
We’re so pleased to announce poet Zosia Wiatr as our 2017 Airstream Poetry Fellow! She’ll spend the week prior to the festival in the Sou’wester’s Potato Bug trailer, poeming to her heart’s content. Thanks to the Sou’wester for sponsoring this residency and the work of so many artists throughout the year.
