Rachel Lyon: SELF PORTRAIT WITH BOY

On February 16, we welcome author Rachel Lyon from Brooklyn with her BRAND NEW NOVEL, Self Portrait with Boy (Scribner, 2/2018). Rachel reads with Portland’s own Sophia Shalmiyev and Kevin Sampsell.
Rachel Lyon’s work has appeared in Joyland, The Iowa Review, The Brooklyn Rail, and other publications. She attended Princeton and Indiana University, where she was fiction editor of the Indiana Review. Lyon teaches for the Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop, Catapult, and elsewhere. She is cofounder of the reading series Ditmas Lit, in her native Brooklyn.
Sophia Shalmiyev’s lyric memoir, Mother Winter, recounting the author’s childhood emigration to the United States from the Soviet Union, will be published by Simon & Schuster in January 2019. She has written for VelaRavishlyVisitantElectric LitPortland Review, and many more. Shalmiyev lives in Portland, Oregon, with her two children.
Kevin Sampsell is the author of the novel, This Is Between Us, the memoir, A Common Pornography, and other books. He runs the small press Future Tense Books in Portland, Oregon. His writing has appeared recently in Wigleaf, The Elephants, Tin House, Longreads, and The Collagist.
